I Need Wiring Diagram for 0.5HP 3 Phase 2 Layer 6 Pole Motor

01/23/2014 5:40 AM

This motor is unusual in that is a 6 pole but it has 24 slots.

It is 2 Layer so has 24 coils.

Step or pitch of each coil is 1:5

Each phase would have 8 coils each.

So how to get a 6 pole out of that I'm not sure.

If anyone can help with a wiring diagram I would be grateful

Surely the motor manufacturer can help, either in the materials that were sent with it or in response to a telephone call?

There's nothing unusual about that, it's just that you've never seen one before and now you're tasked with rewinding/reconnecting it as part of a class assignment. You have provided enough information to simply Google on your thread title and get 939 results including the direct answer to your question.

Sounds like a common lap-wound three phase motor.

48 / 6 = 8

Winding 3 phase - 6 pole - 24 slots - 2 layer winding - step 1-5

Coils and connections :

  • U1 = (1-5) + (8-4) + (8-12) + (9-13) + (15-11) + (17-21) + (24-20) + (23-19) = U2
  • V1 = (5-9) + (6-10) + (12-16) + (13-17) + (14-18) + (21-1) + (22-2) + (23-3) = V2
  • W1 = (11-7) + (10-14) + (20-16) + (19-15) + (18-22) + (4-24) + (2-6) + (3-7) = W2

Legend :

  • (1-5) indicates : a coil between slot number 1 and slot number 5
  • (1-5) + (8-4) indicates a connection between slot number 5 from coil (1-5) and slot number 8 from coil (8-4)
  • U1 = indicates a connection that is brought outside the motor.

Sorry I took so long to reply but I was away for a three day break.

Thank you for the diagram and explanation.

The diagram did not print out too well but the coil and connection and legend information is good enough to see me work it out.

Also thank you to all the others who replied
