love giving unnecessary information Do you know 'normally closed' contactors ? Sometimes used for dynamic braking for example. They work in reverse logic. Not to be confused with what you wanted though.... just something new for you to learn. Sorry if this is confusing.

They have been around since "for ever" and their purpose is just that or to reverse a Load (normally a motor .. but I have used them in other applications -before PLCs back in the Relay Logic days).

On a 3 phase motor they reverse the motor direction by "swapping: to leads (L1 & L3). ALL "Good" reversing contacts have a LOCK Out device that prevents the same load from being told to go the opposite direction at the same time (BAD)..

Normal contactor are used for reversing with change of connection. But reverse contactors and only used for reversing purpose ony.
