Unsolicited commercial email

02/03/2014 11:36 AM

Lately, I have been getting an unusual amount of Spam (defined as unsolicited commercial email) from several different engineering related companies.

One I have complained to about the spam is 3D Creation Systems, LLC. They stated that they were sending info to me because

"your email was provided by IHS as a party interested in our services."

I am not interested in their services or any of the others who have sent spam. And others have not responded to my inquiries.

My question is, is IHS/Globalspec/et al providing leads to these companies or are they farming email info from this site?

In any case I want it to stop. If I have to sever my relationship with CR4 to stop it, so be it. Please advise.

If you looked their sponsors advertisement and your logged in to GlobalSpec, they will contact you......... it had happened to me.

May seem aggressive advertising..... but that's what advertising is now-a-days on the web.

It's likely that you're receiving the emails as a result of viewing a product on IHS GlobalSpec. You may want to take a minute to review the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Ok, I stand corrected. The Privacy Policy is clear. One's email addy, no matter where furnished in the IHS family (including CR4 as part of the family) is fair game to be given to any IHS advertiser/supplier/other 3rd party that IHS chooses to give it to.

I may have to review my usage of CR4.

You must have something different than I have.

"One's email addy... chooses to give it to." My review of the policies indicate no such thing.

You checked something out, outside of the CR4 walls, and left an electronic footprint. Whomever you visited wants to tell you about their must-have stuff.

As difficult as it is to believe, even CR4 is about money. No free lunch, ya gotta pay the piper...
