Yeah... the bathtub that proved to be (almost) bulletproof!

Must have been painted with something special.

Anything that has to do with (real) advances in energy technology; whether it's gaining efficiencies with fossil fuels, LNG, CNG, solar, etc., or energy storage, which is a big one. Smaller, more powerful batteries are always on my radar.

Emerging technology, like the new uses for graphene, your fusion thread, etc.

There's so much cool stuff happening, it's hard to keep up with.

Which makes it a good time to remind members, that if you see something cool, post a thread. You don't have to hang out and baby sit it, and respond to all posts.

There have been a few, not unlike the recent bullet-proof paint thread, where in spite of almost universal panning by all the really smart people here, the OP refuses to accept that they (OP) might be wrong.

Some of the over-unity, save the world, types just can't tolerate the concept that they may just not "get it".

I like the variety of subjects, you never know what's next....also like to keep track of what's happening in the world in an international forum....I guess if I had to pick a favorite area it would be transportation....or energy....I also feel qualified to get any cavalier running.....and know way more about old barber chairs than I need to....feel like I could teach school in India for some reason....have become a computer expert by necessity....and feel like I could write a doctoral level thesis on any subject....

These are my favorite threads:

I was wearing these threads when I first charmed Doorman's Chick.

Hey, it was 1975 . Doorman's Chick is pleased that it's no longer 1975, and is very pleased this suit stays packed away in the plaid suitcase in the attic.

Not a photo of me, but man, was I stylin' in the '70's. Platform shoes and all!

No beard, but I recall a muttonchop sideburns sort of thing that I had going on.

I think that we're ALL glad that the seventies styles are gone.

Environmental issues and the problems involving recyling.

Some, like re-using sea-land containers and solar power supplies consume more resources than they can ever produce or recover, and some are wonderful but often underfunded like the water hyacinth into bio-fuel project which never got off the ground.

The cult of the automobile is my pet peeve. Most expensive luxury in the modern age.

My favorites have been the relativity, quantom mechanics and cosmology. Many of them in Jorrie's blog. Sadly most of the participants (including Jorrie) have drifted away or been kicked off the site. I also miss Sparkstation.

A lot of the people that have gone MIA, were here during the BBT days, guest postings, endless arguments, etc.

Maybe they miss the excitement.

I'm still in touch with some of them on FB. Aside from being banned, boredom seems to be a common theme.

Not any more...but thanks for the offer.

Grew up in Ct, and had to have the driveway cleared in time for my Dad to go to work; which meant 4 AM wakeups a lot of the time.

Shoveling snow for neighbors, was a great way for a kid to make money though.

I spend far too much time on here. Just ask my wife.

Wouldn't want to miss anything.

I think he was more dedicated to astronomy than engineering.

I looked the other day when this thread started, and there are approximately 68,000 registered members, but there has always been a relative few that would be considered "regular" posters.

Right now there are 121 online, and 11 registered users. It's been that way since I joined, with a max of about 30 "regulars".

Personally, I don't really have a social life, which is the way I want it...so I look at CR4 as a place to shoot the bull also. If I knew people in real life that had my same interests, I wouldn't be on here much either, but my friends are not tech oriented at all, so their stories bore me...nor are they interested in mine.

I do what I can, to keep Lyn's, (and other's), blood pressure at elevated levels.

So if there was a thread about an indoor pool pond, upside down heavy equipment in it, with Superman, and a cat hanging from the ceiling (it wasn't Del, thankfully), that would be great, wouldn't it?

Barchetta-

Definitely a great one, but probably only a medium great one. Now if the indoor pond was frozen and the USA Olympic figure skaters were playing hockey against the Russian Women and the USA men's and women's Hockey Teams was doing figure skating and Ice Dancing now that would be a great one. For a really greatest one, one that deserves honorable mention on the general section of CR4, if you put Frankenstein's Monster as the USA goalie and Superman doing half pipes through the upside down heavy equipment now that is the ultimate GREATEST.

I'm sure the great minds at CR4 could come up with some connection between these great events and engineering so that any stuffy engineers would accept it as engineering. Any suggestions?

Good Luck, Old Salt

Honestly, I can't really say it's a "thread or topic". It's all the information written or linked in the member posts. There isn't a week (hell - most times not a day!), when one person or another doesn't feed my brain some new goodies.

When I am at work and checking out CR4 during a break, if I come accross some gem or other, I simply "send link by email" to my home email. That is one fat folder after this long!

Exactly! From a website that has useful macros for Excel, OBD-II codes for every car out there, to how to keep something like a water tank for livestock from freezing by using manure and hay!

And in the meantime I stay amused with things like spray-on bullet proof paint, and other tom foolery!

THIS! THIS is why I love CR4! It doesn't have to be USEFUL! It only has to be something I didn't know. And often even something I didn't know I didn't know, and didn't know I wanted to know!

This is the reason for my love of CR4. Thank you all.
