Level Transmitter for Nitrogen Blanketing Application

02/14/2014 10:50 AM

Dear Experts,

Which type of level transmitter is suitable for nitrogen blanketing application & why.

(Radar-Low frequency or high frequency) or guided wave radar or Capacitance type.

Please guide me.

Thanks in advance.

None; wrong type of instrument. You need a gas analyzer.

I think your question is unclear. You can use a wave guided radar gage such as the Raptor (Rosemont) but depends on what you are blanketing. You don't typically measure the nitrogen but the liquid underneath.

Capacitance is a last-resort solution, only applicable where all the liquid properties, including temperature, are invariant.

The correct method of measurement depends upon the precise application, details of which have not been shared with the forum.

Good interview question, how did you answer it?

If your goal is to ensure the integrity of a nitrogen blanket above a liquid then the answer is "none of the above" since all of those devices will tell you the level of the fluid, not the amount or type of the gas in the space above it.
