Nagaraja is exactly right even if the translation is a bit off the mark. I'm sure NHT meant to write "use a double-conversion or on-line UPS that always powers its loads using its inverter so that there is no pause in power delivery when line voltage goes out of tolerance and the batteries take over."

I'm sure NHT's English is much better than my knowledge of his/her native tongue.

Cheers !!

The switchover time is too long.

Read the manual.

Is the time to switch over longer than 25 milliseconds?

What does the seller say?

Who set it up?

Have you called the seller/distributor/factory?

Have you read the manual?

Did you buy it?

Why did you buy it?

Did you ask what the switchover time was before you bought it?

Basically, you're screwed if you can't figure this out on your own, or with some competent help.

UPS by definition is continuously on irrespective of whether line supply is available or not.

In India the term UPS is used for an inverter that kicks in when the mains supply is off using a relay or solid state switch. It is best to have a small backup supply to the computer (5 or 10 minute backup). This keeps the unit on while the inverter swithches on.

Sadly, it appears that there are many substandard UPS systems around, we see a lot of these problems on CR4 from people like yourself.....

I personally have never seen a UPS that could switch over without doing some nasty things to the mains supply, which sensitive electronics simply cannot handle.....yours is pretty normal it seems = total rubbish!

If I needed one, I would build it myself - home made quality battery charger designed NOT to overcharge, but fully able to supply the continuous load needed (plus a bit more!) and a mains converter to supply the mains from 12 volts.

Then, when the mains drops there is no break in the supply.......that is the simplest method I can think of.....cheap too!!!

I personally never liked the types that attempt to "fix" the missing mains within a few microseconds.....complicated and a waste of time to my mind.

Most UPS systems mentioned here, seem to simply overcharge their batteries and ruin them, shortly before the mains drops off!!!! I am singularly unimpressed with such things.....

A charger for long term connection/usage, needs to handle the battery with "kid Gloves" on.........

I do feel that its a fairly easy thing to make yourself, as buying a finished unit appears to be very fraught......

Sounds like a mix up in terms. A real UPS is uninteruptable and is seamless. If the mains goes off your PCs etc will not loose power. Your supply seems more like a back up with a changeover switch which senses mains failure and swaps to in this case the battery backed inverter. The changeover switch will sense the mains failure at the same time your PC does - i.e. lights (and PC) out.

I'm just trying to clarify the actual problem. a quality UPS system is designed to give a constant conditioned supply of power. basically its a filter to ensure the power your power provider is giving you is "clean power". it almost sounds like this system is expected to kick-in during outages from the power supplier. this is when a back up such as a diesel generator is used. are we using the correct name for the proper system here?
