Looks great, IF you can justify the added cost and complexity.

The cost and complexity was probably also an issue in 1946 when the current plug was launched....

Granted. Both revolutionary ideas.

The new plug should almost sell itself.

And a few hundred million receptacles, too.

There's the beauty of it. It uses the original receptacle. Look at the photos on the site.

Right! it is a completely new vision of an old gadget.

BTW, it seems to me there is a revisionist movement that focused on everyday use appliances / objects in order to make them more user-friendly, like: http://www.wired.com/design/2013/12/home-depot-reinvents-buckets/

Why is that demonstration photo plugging in to a wall outlet of a bunrt-out building?

There's so way I'd trust any outlet that covered in potentially conductive soot/goo.

I could just see that new slim design taking over, outlets being replaced to save space, outlets for new construction designed to take advantage of the sleek design....

...then thee electronics designers go back to the 'wall wort' style of putting the transformer into the plug and now one wall wart blocks FIVE adjacent outlets instead of just one or two adjacent ones.
