Faulty Nissan Sunny Saloon Car

03/13/2014 4:35 AM

I have the above mentioned car, purchased July 2007, VIN number and model number are KNMC4C2HM8F671068 AND n1016-4A respectively.

Car stops on motion and re-starts when engaged in parking position. It trips again after about 3 to 4 kilometres and starts again. The fuel pump was suspected as the fault on the advice of the mechanic but the problem still persists.

I need your help in diagnosing the fault.

Thanks

Emma.

Most problems with vehicles can be solved simply by listing the vehicle on internet auction sites (names withheld). After a few days, someone comes along with some money, swaps if for the vehicle, and takes the problem away.

2007 should have an OBD port for reading the codes. There is a fuel pressure sensor that the code reader would give an accurate fuel line pressure. If the fuel pump is the problem.

Car stops on motion- does the engine die, stop running. Or does the engine run and there is no forward motion.

Restarts when in parking position- Most cars need to be in park to start the engine. Or are you saying after placing it in park with the engine still running and the shifting back to drive the car motion resumes. If so sound like a transmission problem. Any body check the fluid level?

A mechanic that changes a fuel pump just on spec sounds not real good.

As you say OBD. The ECU should tell you what is going on.

A better problem description would stop alot of guess work too.

"Car stops on motion and re-starts when engaged in parking position"

1. Car stops on motion is due to unintentional or unnecessary applied pressure by the push of brake pedal in an attempt to bring brake pedal close to black top.

2. Car re-starts when engaged in parking position is due to unintentional or unnecessary turn of starter key or due to applied pressure on start button

Sounds like a fuel supply problem....I would replace any fuel filters...possibly the carburetor needs cleaning or adjustment....

Try loosening the fuel cap. A blocked breather will cause too much 'suction' in the tank for a good fuel flow. It is best to not do this for a prolonged period of time, in fact it is best to leave it tight and go for a drive, get out and loosen it and listen for a sucking sound. A breather filter is easily replaced.

Does this car happen to be fitted with one of those automatic star/stop systems that shuts the engine off as soon as you stop at a light or similar?

If yes, get that checked out.

Also, the system that prevents the engine starting or running for long when the wrong key is inserted may be at fault. I had one on my Mitsubishi that the key sometimes "lost" its code while driving.....tried the other key and the problem was fixed!! Bought new key and everything was OK again....

Have you driven with the spare key yet?

It could possibly even be a key battery problem for some makes (eg. it may be repairable!).....some cars have rechargeable key batteries when in use via induction, these batteries wear out....BMW for example has had such problems for many years.....or perhaps the battery is a primary cell and is simply used up.....it is thought that the batteries on cars owned by women are used up quickest due to being often in a handbag and being constantly "pressed!"

I have also seen on CANbus fitted cars (I don't know about your car on this point whether it has a CANbus or not!) that part of the Bus is not working as it should and the signals are simply not getting through properly.......

It could even be the radio or Navi giving problems strangely enough as they are also on the bus.

I have even repaired/re-soldered some simple dry joints on the CANbus PCB/card connectors (found with a Jewelers glass!) for the ignition key slot and had 100% success.

For hard to fix CANbus problems an analyser is probably needed. Goto a specialist. NOT NISSAN!!!

See here:-
