How Do You Find the Max Allowable Stress in Tension of a Material

I am looking to find the max allowable stress of a material called X5CrNi18-10, however I am just wondering how you would find the max allowable stress of any material in tension ? any help is appreciated.

It is a real shame that these kids such as undergrad_mech are so lost that they don't even know what they are doing.

Stretch it until it breaks. Divide the maximum stress by 4 (or other code-mandated factor).

Easy. Put a test specimen in the post to Fredski, as in #1 above, so as to make use of that piece of equipment.

X5CrNi18-10 nearest UNS specification material is S30400. Maximum allowable stressis 138 MPa at temperature between -30 degree C to 40 degree C. As the temperature increases, the allowable stress decreases. So you have to specify a temperature to get correct value. The above data is in accordance with ASME Section IIP-D Table 5A.

You're question is ambiguous. Are you asking how to physically determine what the max stresses are or are you asking where you can find these value as in a document of some sort?
