How to Connect Inverter with RCBO ?

04/16/2014 7:56 AM

I have main connection of 4KW , I wanted to put a RCBO - 32 A ( 30 mA - 2 pole - Siemens) , I also have a inverter of 800VA , which will auto connect to my lighting and some smaller loads i.e loads like refrigerator,Water Pump,AC , Iron , water Heater,Microwave will be excluded from inverter.

My electrician suggested like the RCBO will be put on the mains , and the inverter will be feed into individual MCB's. I felt like this will make the RCBO to trip as there will always a difference of current RCBO will detect.

Please let me know if I am correct . if correct how do I protect my circuit using RCBO , at the same time , I should be able distribute the inverter power to appropriate appliances.A small example will be of immense help to me.

Looking forward to your help

Follow British Standard 7671.

If there is a difference in current and the RCBO trips on the difference, then there is a fault downstream that requires immediate disconnection and rectification before reconnection as a load.

If the RCBO trips on overcurrent, then there is too much load connected to that particular circuit for the wiring to withstand long-term.

If in doubt, consult a qualified Electrician.
