If you mean that the lily doubles in size every day, then it would take 29 days for two lilies to cover the entire pond since on the 29th day both of the lilies would be half the size of the single lily after 30 days. 1/2 + 1/2 = 1.

If it takes 3 min to boil 1 egg how long will it take to boil 2 eggs = 3 min.

Therefore it will take 30 days.

How many lilies are required to cover all the major dams in a year?

Hi vermin,

for the same reason that if I take the left fork and drive for a while, then turn around and drive back why don't I have to then take the right fork to get back to where I started from?

Actually, if I can tuna fish, what color is the man's coat?

I'm sure you've heard the proof of why a horse has an infinite number of legs, correct?

Of course, it was the topic of my doctoral thesis. I proved conclusively that the number of legs on the horse is ∞ - 1. Had something to do with milipedes and centipedes involved in the fertilization process.

For the novice "legmen" the proof can be realized in an old obscure Japanese koan: "what is the sound of an infinite number of hands clapping"?

Truly wise man never play leap-frog with unicorn.

Well, just to refresh everyone else's memory...

A horse has two legs in back and forelegs in front, 2+4=six legs, however, six legs is a very odd number of legs for a horse to have, but six is an even number, and since the only number that is both even and odd at the same time is ∞, a horse must have an infinite number of legs! QED

Re: Riddle

Nope! I proved that the number of legs on a horse is ∞ - 1, hence it is an odd number. In simple gibberish: √forelegs = 4(1.4142...) legs in front. Similarly, √aftlegs = 14142... thus the total number of legs on the outrigger must be {[(³√f ±√a) / (Œ - Œ)] -1} = ∞ - 1 QED.

Of course this is only true today, June 21th, the summer paradox. If I can figure out how to get all the leg irons off before the next race he might well win the Preakness. That is, if he doesn't drown.

Can an officer instruct a private to collect a cannon report, or a chopper pilot order an airman to perform a rotor propwash?

For the most part, yes. This is because in each case there's not going to be very much evidence to collect. I think even CSI would say, "Ahh, screw it."
