Hi Pandit,

Please be more specific.

What track? Dog track? Deer track? Railroad track? Track-team track, career track,....

You get the idea.

First Google that of which you speak and, if you still have questions we'll do our best to answer them, *provided* you ask *specific* questions. Ones that *can* be answered. Your question as framed is too vague.

A width would be wider or more narrow. So what track are you referring too and what about the width or length?

It determines the number of analog recordings you can get on a tape recorder. There is a small but measurable improvement in the noise floor by using a wider track. One will get much more of an noise and overall fidelity improvement by recording at a faster tape speed but this will limit the amount of recording time.

Tracking width vs wheelbase is usually for purpose....and usually falls within 1.4 to 1 and 1.7 to 1 wheelbase to track width...and is sometimes guided by regulatory bodies....some people claim there is a sweet spot at just over 1.6 for a good handling vehicle....but this must be in conjunction with weight distribution, ideally 50/50, and center of gravity, generally aligned with your crankshaft...If the width of your track is too wide, there will be a problem with weight transfer from front to rear, if it's too narrow there will be a problem with weight transfer side to side....

Track width is not longer or shorter. Track width is wider or narrower.

Based on your previous posts you are trying to do......something (automotive engineering course questions or building a vehicle perhaps).

Let us know what that something is and perhaps we can be of help, otherwise we are just guessing based on the incredibly limited information you are providing.

On a railroad it is the width between the rails. This gives the engines and cars more stability. It also means you have another problem, the train can't get through the tunnels anymore unless the tunnels are made wider. Not worth the bother!

Good Luck, Old Salt
