What kind of acid? Many acids are available; like, hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric, citric, ascetic and a lot more. Different acids react to different materials. And how are you going to use the material? as a container for storage or just for protective cover.

Polyethylene is good for just about any dilute acid. But not HF. As one poster noted, it will bite. And HF burns over just 5% of your skin can be fatal.

Are you building tank or piping system?

Are you looking for Valves or fittings?

Incomplete questions cause people to guess and to make suggestions which may or may not be appropriate. It is in their good nature that they want to help, it is a risk that what they suggest may be dangerously inapproriate in your undisclosed application.

Give us the use, then you will get intelligence that is specific, not guesses hurled at the wall. Temperature, pressure and conditions of exposure would all be helpful.

Weak acids in soil?

in human?

in rain?

in chemical reactor?

in exhaust system?

in clothing?

in food service equipment?

Well-put ... "Incomplete questions..." As the previous post hints, WHAT are you trying to build, or to protect...? And against what type of "weak acid"? Acids can be funny (or, not-so-funny) products. Pure nitric acid stores well in stainless steel containers. Being an oxidizing acid (hence, useful in rocket motors as oxidizer) it enhances the passive film on the stainless steel ... thus enhancing the SS's protection against corrosive attack. But, get enough water into the acid, and attack WILL occur in transpassive mode. As I mentioned in another thread, you wish to pose such questions to the www of corrosion experts. Go to www.nace.org (National Association of Corrosion Engineers International) and subscribe to the Corrosion Network (List Server). Worldwide participation... more knowledge about every type of corrosion (and protection against) than you could ever hope to find!

I hold Level-III certificates in Visual & Optical testing, Magnetic Particle Testing & Ultrasonic Testing (ASNT) as well as Corrosion Technician (several levels of training in corrosion, cathodic protection testing, and inspection of protective coatings; NACE).

I agree with other guys that ask for more informations.

What you've asked is so general that is not possible to give you a single reply, many differetnt type of Materials could be potentially suitable for your service.

Material Selection is a complex task that involve not only material resistance to specific environments but also economical and health consideration.

This is the type of question that usually people, i'm a corrosion engineer, ask me hoping to receive a reply in just few seconds.

Hi

I'm completely unrealted to the original poster, but ran across this forum in a quick search through Google. I'm building a tank, specifically to contain H2SO4, that is extracted from batteries. I'm trying to determine a cheap and easily accessible way to do this. By easily accessible, I mean I'm located outside the US, and have limited access to chemicals / materials.

Thanks
