Fear of Success

05/31/2014 5:43 PM

Anybody else felt it?I'm happy being almost poor. Big money scares me. Am I crazy?

Don't answer. How can being almost poor make me feel good, and why am I scared of money?

I prolly know the answer, but why would a person shy away from wealth?

I prolly know that answer too, but not really.

Does the realization of your dreams, scare you?

Are we truly in love with the chase?

I'm not comfortable sending cash through the mail.

Can I buy you a cup of coffee at Starbucks?

You can go to the beach and pretend you're still cool. Just kidding...

Southern CA has a way of making me mean.

Like the crazy boy. Kidding again.

Re: Fear of Success

If you think money is a primary goal, then it very well may be scary.

I think of it as a secondary or tertiary response to a successful goal.

In other words, I am much more focused on successfully achieving meaningful goals such as winning a difficult contract, delivering needed solutions, or solving a unique problem.

It just so happens that those things have value to clients and they are willing to justly reward us for those solutions.

From that perspective I don't fear success, rather I look forward to success and building on past successes to take on bigger challenges.

Money is not the real reward for me. Succeeding is.

I might also offer a tidbit of wisdom here: Success is nothing more than fulfilling your commitments.

Why should anyone fear that?

No. Money is not my goal....but it is, kinda.

I've been a happy homeless person. It's hard to describe the freedom.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I'm comfortable where I am.

More money won't make me happier. I've been a loser for so long, I've grown to like it. I don't want to be famous............or even known; aside from crazy kramarat.

You may well have nailed it - the whole value vs cost aspect to life.To use a hackneyed phrase, a cynic knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing.

Big money wouldn't scare me much; I'd take care of frugal needs and a few modest whims, and set up various charitable endowments.

That's just you Tornado.

Your love of humanity emanates from every pore of your body.

If the leftists ever got to know me, they would,(mostly) like me.

Maximizing returns, with as little effort as possible.

Unfortunately, little effort is as far as libs go. I'm willing to bust it for a payoff up the road.

Assuming my product sells, I will be in a place that I've never been. I'm not sure that I want to live there.

Hence, my post.

Perhaps you would like to explain to everyone, the details of your own success, and why you feel so comfortable treating people like sh*t.

The floor is yours sir.

Kramarat, I think in your case, the symptoms might be better described as a 'freedophelia', rather than 'opulenphobia'. You aren't fear-sick of success, you are love-sick for freedom.

I don't know what's going on, tinac.

I should be happy, but after spending a lifetime becoming "nobody", I want to stay, "nobody".

I'm just whining. I had the impression that engineers enjoy being "not" noticed.

We'll see how everything pans out.

Maybe you grew up not liking this guy....

Maybe you view success as the end of life, and it's just about the fear of growing old.......or is this a trick to get us to torture you by sending you money...?

The old part is true, but I think it's just an overall resistance to change.

I'm used to my life the way it is, and I like it.

There's also the potential for a loss of anonymity, and I also like being a nobody. I don't know how the famous people can deal with it.

Not that I think I'm gonna be famous, but even the slightest possibitily worries me.

You could probably get away with this in a few places, even claiming it is not counterfeit in that it doesn't impersonate a real bill. The Secretary of the Treasury is the best hoot.

This may all be moot.

I'm thinking about applying for the vacated press secretary position.

Now that would be fun!

Money (or whatever resource) gives choices.Choice is not always a good place to be in. Being a phillanthropist, I'm in line with others to help ease any burden you may have.

More seriously, I've never noticed any correlation between material wealth and happiness. Certainly nice to have the money option, but most pop songs on the topic are not far wrong.

Apart from a spellchecker, anybody in doubt can send me all their worldly goods so that I may ease their troubles.

It's a wise man who knows when he's happy.
My bows sell for good money, but if I chased orders and tried to make a load of money it would just spoil it for me. And if I had so much money that I could do whatever I wanted, I'd make bows anyway.
The money is irrelevant, it's about doing what we enjoy (obviously assuming we have the essentials. That's not the "essentials" the marketting men would have us believe we need either)

Yep. Got the call from the doctor's office on Fri.

They were originally worried about my liver enzymes, so I had to do a second blood test.

Everything is normal.

I wonder if it had anything to do with my first appointment being on a Monday, and my second on a Thursday?

Re: Fear of Success

Could possibly have to do with something you ate prior to your first test.

.

An acquaintance went through a similar ordeal recently with intermittent liver function results out of spec, that continued to get worse. It took months of eliminating practically all spices, any supplemental vitamins, caffeine, alcohol, theobromine, medication, and other possibilities; and then slowly adding a few of those things back, and redoing liver function tests, to pin point the cause. Cinnamon.

.

I'm not suggesting that the odds are above negligible that this also has happened to you, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to relate some things I picked up from her. There are two types of cinnamon. One of the two, the kind that very often is what you get when it isn't specified is high in coumarin, which is a liver toxin. Not all people are similarly affected, but for some, moderate amounts of cassia cinnamon can cause lasting liver damage.

.

Ceylon is the cinnamon without the high levels of coumarin, and cassia is the cinnamon with the high levels to be avoided. I don't know if I am one of the more sensitive people, or not, but if the container does not indicate it is ceylon cinnamon, I don't put any in my coffee, and I won't buy it at the store of have it in my house if it doesn't specifically say it is ceylon.

.

I have no idea if cassia cinnamon intake might also be also responsible for symptoms of ennui in some people.

He's just got an overactive liver which produces an excessive amount of bile.

If he vents that here before he goes in for his test, he tests OK.

Sorry, sometimes these flashes of brilliance just come to me.

It's all relative isn't it? What is your definition of "big" money or of "poor"? I don't consider myself to have "big" money but I know I'm not poor! I've met most of my goals and I'm in the process of taking things OFF my "bucket list"...not completing things on the list but removing them because I realize as I age the list is no longer realistic. Yes "Be happy, don't worry!"

All good advice.

I'm just going to start the website, relax, and fill the orders as fast as I can.

The work part I'm looking forward to. Manual labor, by myself, while listening to the radio; which is what I've always done, but now I can stay home and do it.

If the money gets big, my wife can deal with all of the admin stuff....the money too.

It's interesting, I was raised on a farm..... And as I was growing up, I Never got material thing that I wanted for say Christmas. My parents would say we didn't need they,...... And as it turned out, they were right..........because I beleive we all grow up happy........... And as I was growing up, I thought we were very rich......... But in my teens, I was finding out, that my dad so the kids would have things for say for Christmas, he had to sell a producing milk cow. Just so the kids could have presents.

Dad was to always involved with us, but he'd make sure we had things we needed. Baseball gloves, take us with our horses to horse shows and drill teams, envolved in 4H. And as I would talk to my dad, and he'd tell me this, I told him this, I felt when I was growing up that we were rich......... And looking back we were.

kramarat:

Life is all relative to what you want life to be. Happiness is also relative.

If your life is relatively close to what you want it to be then that is happiness. If life isn't what you want it to be then you are unhappy with what you have or are doing. That's not good and you have to work harder to achieve this goal, no matter what it is.

If you have what you want don't question it, don't compare your life to others and enjoy the life you have. Live the life you have and enjoy, it could be taken away from you in a heart beat or lack thereof.

Good Luck, Old Salt

It's just stress.

I've got to purchase things to manufacture the product, but I don't want to do it until I have online orders, and use that money to buy the stuff I need, and ramp up production.

....so the first few weeks are going to be a little scary.

The liver test?

Mondays have never been good for blood tests.

And lyn, I usually reserve my bile for the weekends, but the release of 5 of the most dangerous terrorists from GITMO, may cause me to make an exception.

I don't know; it's probably just me, but since our military member was being held in Pakistan, I would have cut off aid, until he was safely returned.

http://www.cgdev.org/page/aid-pakistan-numbers

But we can talk about that on FB.
