The label on most any bottle of cyanoacrylate ("super glue") will tell you - acetone. Or soak for a VERY long time in soap and water.

I have had success with acetone breaking the super glue bond.

I don't know how the acrylic nail will behave.

Soaking in acetone is rough on the skin, so unless you are a guy that has to get rid of the evidence of an experiment before you are embarrassed, I wouldn't suggest it.

Any lady will tell you that nail polish remover has to be used discretely.

Acetone is the greatest proportion component of commercial nail varnish remover. It will soften the acrylic to the point where both it and the adhesive can be removed by mild abrasion with carborundum.

Hi PWSlack,

Many thanks for your response .Basically once acrylic hardens , I believe it is resistance to most chemical ... well I may be wrong and need advise . Acetone - the commercially high strength ones available ones are being evaluated is an option to soften acrylic nails . Acetone is often not used as it dehydrates the skin too much . I am looking for an alternative to blend it with acetone .

Just an idea, how about blending it with glycerin?

Or mineral oil ?

Warm water: acrylic absorbs about 12 wt percent of water and swells. The nail will also absorb water, swell and soften. BTW acetone is used in most of the nail shops.

As you have been told, warm soapy water works best, either use large rubber gloves to hold the solution or sit in a bath with the hands under water.....but it will probably take a time to work, about the time that your soles will be seen to have that funny ridging after being in water a long time! But who cares?

Thanks for all the response ... water soak is safe .... but I can't ask my wife to soak her nails is a tub of water for a few hours !!!! The nail shop uses a acetone mixture ethyl that is not so carcinogic. an alternative is tough . Guess I have to live with what is being used at the moment .

Thanks
