Has this Forum Started its Eternal September?

06/16/2014 10:32 AM

(For the uninitiated, the title refers to an Internet phenomenon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_september )

I seem to have noticed a bit of a surge in, shall we say, less-than-well-though-out questions on the forum, many even making the Daily Digest. I won't name names, to protect the embarrassed, even though Anonymous Poster #1 can be a real dingbat. (And yes, I know that the first person to post anonymously in a thread becomes AP#1, I'm trying to end my opening statement with some humor. Just give me a pity chuckle and move on.)

Has anyone else noticed the recent surge in 'newbie' questions, or am I simply being too sensitive about people asking for specific answers to questions they don't understand? Surely other members have seen this pattern as well, but simply didn't open their mouth to say, "This is odd," or 'Is this really happening?"

I havent noticed any change besides the constant spamming of Mr. Love I fix it all!

This post is as useless as some of the brittle questions that have been coming on for years now.

Did you notice the weather change? Or was it the climate. I forgot!

APes come, and APes go, but the ones who stay, are in the know.

Phoenix911 and I have been here since 2007. Believe me, it is cyclic.

Ah, thank you, I saw this 'flood' of 'newbie questions' and misinterpreted it, sine I wasn't around this time last year to see the surge then.

My experience here just hasn't been long enough to see the spike as art of a cycle.

(Although some of the questions I found today were real doozies, like the 'USB-RCA adapter' question. That was like something my Luddlite mother, who still dosen't understand how to 'dot com'[sic] despite being able to follow the step-by-step instructions to log into her employer's VPN to send reports.)

So it isn't an indicator on the teaching profession and the quallity of parenting that provides them with individuals to teach, then? That comes as a surprise.

Sorry my bad.

I got a real job a few months ago that takes up all my time now so I just don't have the time or drive to go troll hunting like I used to..

"And congrads on the job, at least it will keep the missus from nagging."

Not even close. I work in the oil fields now as a electrical/electronics tech for a good fracking company so I am out on site for 14 - 15 days at a time then home for 6 - 7 days at a time.

By golly wouldn't you know that I went from being nagged for being a lazy ass "without a real job" who did nothing (even though I did still pay half our living expenses just the same) to now being nagged at for never being home and her workload having more than tripled now that she has to cover everything I did when I was home "being an unemployed lazy ass".

The moral is if you are a whiney lazy woman be careful what you wish for because if you get it it could end up being far more work for you that what you expected!

"Posting information on the internet is rather like casting seeds to the wind" Be careful of what you say on the internet, noth'n worst than a woman's scorn, especially if your married to them Congrats on the job. I thought your were going to keep us up dated, or did I miss a post or two?

I'll bet you'd sing a different song if the, "whiney lazy woman" you're married to was a CR4 member and reading all your posts.

You're talking about a woman who goes through power supplies for her laptop like crazy because she keeps trying to use the cord to support the whole weight of the laptop.

TCM's wife is something like the polar opposite of an Engineer.

I think you could say that about society as a whole, things are changing so fast that once you learn how to do something, it's time to upgrade and start over....or a system is changed and you have to interact in a different way.....or the rules change and you have to modify your behavior to comply.....it's the rise of the machines and the continued manipulation of the super rich....

Less than well thought out questions seems to be quite "normal" from what I have been looking at(I didn't do any statistical analysis but maybe someone should). A lot of people just seem to think that we know all the facts prior to asking the question(s). I am sure we have all been guilty of this at one time or another, but, (every?)one eventually learns, hopefully, that you can't give an intelligent answer without all the facts.
