Compulsory Information for Members

05/27/2014 7:51 AM

The location of members must be made compulsory.

Many of the questions can be replied to more correctly if the location is known.

For example the water use of thermal power stations in the next post.

And if someone is in a design office in one country doing work for an installation in another? What then? What about offshore work?

What about those that travel a lot. I would rather say that it would be beneficial to the seeking person to disclose this information in the OP to avoid being asked that exact same question.

You are right that the information makes sense, but it almost makes so much sense that everybody who is asking and expecting a correct answer should make sure the location is clear (if it is necessary). This being said - if all the OP's would already have all the necessary information in the question we would be blessed (and had nothing to complain about).

Send from somewhere!

And what is going to prevent a member from claiming he is from somewhere else, like a fictional planet from some other part of the galaxy, for example?

Yea, we would have people putting in "Earth" or "Here!" or something equally unhelpful.

People just need to learn to include relevant details in their questions (such as country). I would suggest this information is added to the CR4 posting rules section, but do we realistically think that would help much? Given the state of many of the questions they cannot even provide details to answer the question in the first place.

Exactly! If questions posted gave enough details, it would be easier to offer suggestions/solutions. Location is sometimes a key, but more often, not enough information is given to even start to make a suggestion. It kind of goes back to the old school adage - "show your work" at least that way you can get partial marks, ie., make sure enough detail is given with the question so some kind of intelligent thoughts can be given.

"...The location of members must be made compulsory...."

.

"I have an idea! It is of course a great idea...naturally, after all, it did come from me. I have already thought of a reason that this idea should be implemented, so no further analysis is needed. All that remains to be done, is to let the masses know that this idea 'must be made compulsory'."

.

You have the marks of a natural born politician. I offer my sincere condolences and wish you a speedy recovery, or a quick painless passing.
