07/01/2007 11:04 PM

Just out of wonderment.... These forums seem to be dominated by males. Are there any female scientists/engineers out there? Speak up!! If you have somrthing to say, SAY IT!!!

I am. Sure. An answer to a question should not ever involve the word no. Everyone can ask something, it is the answer that is. It all depends upon which side of briliance or insanity you wish to stand. Bye the bye,....From where I stand I can almost look back and see briliance!

I've known several female scientists but less female engineers. The doors of engineering were opened a long time ago but females have been slow to take up the challenge.

When I first engineering college, there wasn't a female in sight. I left engineering eventually to transfer to an electronics technician's course and had one female classmate. Her reason for being there was she noticed that it seemed to be an all-boy course!

"Oh, so you're not actually here to study?", I said.

"No, silly!" says she, "I meant that this seems to be a place where I can prove myself!"

By the time we graduated two years later, the first year classes had about five women. I visited the school about five years after graduation and found ten women in the first year class. I told my old teacher that women seemed to be slow to take engineering or technical courses. He said, "Yup, 'guess they don't find it challenging enough!"

In all my long and extinguished career I've only met one woman engineer, very nice lady brunette, big brown eyes, rather plain and quiet...but there is something v attractive about intelligent women.

I've met still fewer cats!

Respond to Del: Del, do you get Sienfield over there in reruns? Just as Cramer had a book about coffee tables that turned in to a coffee table if you didn't have one. Me thinks you need a Librarian shaped book about librarians that, when you open it, becomes a Librarian. So here is a start.... List the top Librarian stories. I have a good one about a Librian at Princeston U. . .ASH. . Your turn to start a discussion. I think my welcome mat is slowly becoming un-weft.

Both of you might benefit from your own, personal copies of the Librarian Action Figure (with "amazing shushing action") for those long, lonely nights away from the Stacks.
