Estimation of Leakage Current

Hi dearsIs there any procedure to estimate the level of the probable leakage current in a buildingof high power consumption and several MEP equipment so the earth leakage relays at the different panels can be selected of suitable ranges?Please advise.Best Regards.

Check the leakage current of the machines and add the values together. If your lucky the information is in the datasheets or manuals of the equipment otherwise you may have to measure it.

Don't forget to check the local electrical standards and codes of practice to ensure you are not setting the level too high!

what are the RCDs for. If you are looking for protecting life the criteria is different to the rating required because you have a poor earth return path and cannot clear the protection. Remeber to take into account time to discriminate between the devices.
