Temperature Loads in Saudi Arabia

08/03/2014 12:05 AM

Hello, I'm looking for official temperature loads in Saudi Arabia to design a steel structure.

Apparently there are no prescriptions in Saudi Building Code SBC 301-2007 http://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CCMQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Ffaculty.ksu.edu.sa%2Fashuraim%2FDocuments%2FSBC301_FEB_2008_FINAL.pdf&ei=N7TdU6z9GeK6ygPDyYGgAg&usg=AFQjCNHk3kcRuPvSUA27jzQgbyBLKCDx-w&bvm=bv.72197243,d.bGQ

Can you help me ? Thanks.

Google, "heat loads in Saudi Arabia", or "official temperature loads in Saudi Arabia".

Try searching on terms like "Saudi Arabia wet bulb" and "Saudi Arabia dry bulb", and for the specific city or region. I doubt that anything will affect the steel as a structure, but of course you will be interested in heating/cooling loads.

I am assuming that you're designing the structural steel frame for thermal stresses due to thermal expansion and contraction.

If there is no provision is the Saudi code, than I strongly suggest that you look at historic weather conditions (if available) for the area where the building is to be built.

Use the Record High temperature + add 5 degrees F. Use the Record Low temperature subtracting 5 degrees F.

That will give you the extreme Temperature range that the building will hopefully never experience over it's lifetime.....this is a conservative approach.

Naturally, you will have to determine the average temperature that the steel will be exposed to during it's erection so as to determine the Design Maximum Thermal expansion and contraction values.

I hope this helps you.

All metrological data, including the ambient temperatures and loads are available with me ... I don't have your email ID; please forward me your email ID and I shall send you the document free of cost.
