The motion is really more of a glide than a walk, kind of like:

Is Billie Jean nearby?

Thanks for posting this Fredski. I was waiting to hear a viable explanation of this movement.

There has been quite a bit of speculation, and recently it was just proved.

Conditions have to be just right, ground moisture and wind.

ground moisture (from rain) is the lubricate and wind is what propels it.

I'll see if I can pull up any info.

This info didn't take long at all.

Walking rocks are fairly common in Death Valley, CA. I once read how it happens, but did not file the answer in my brain file. I have seen a few there but no where else. Aliens maybe, it is not far from the giant worms in the movie.FJZQEB9T

So the answer, my friend, was blowin' in the wind, the answer was blowin' in the wind?
