Moisture Mmt. Using Alumimium Oxide Cell

09/01/2014 11:59 PM

We are doing moisture measurement using aluminium oxide cell.

However I am not getting information regarding, how exactly moisture is measured once its absorbed in aluminium oxide layer? Does it directly give measurement is ppmv/ppmw levels or in some other form and then its converted to ppmv/ppmw levels.

Looking forward to help from CR4 team.

Lost.

You are lost, once again! No?

Maybe some literature on the subject will help.

Scholarly articles for Moisture measurement. using aluminium oxide cell

Read some of these.

Never underestimate the value of the resource available at the other end of phone numbers that equipment manufacturers publish.

It's time to talk to them.

As aluminum oxide absorbs moisture, the dielectric constant changes. A circuit using a capacitor with an aluminum oxide dielectric senses the changing capacitance.

Yes agreed. But then the moisture absorbed gives measurement is ppm levels. Or it is in some other form like dew point. I tried to get information on google but not getting much details.

Doesn't the company that makes these cells have application data notes or something similar? A measurement device is almost useless if you cannot correctly define what the output means.

A moisture analyzer takes the raw data from the aluminum oxide sensor and converts it into some standard form such as ppm or dewpoint. You should contact a supplier of moisture analyzers and explain what your application is.

If you're interested in dew point and the readout is ppm, there is an online calculator to convert ppm to dew point.

I hope this is helpful.

Have you really read the manual? really? What is the specific application? In some applications it might make better sense to have the moisture result in ppm, but in others, one might want %RH, and still others might report in volumetric units.

As Lyn pointed out: have a discussion with the OEM about your application.
