Parallel Operation Of Different Rating Of Generators.

09/11/2014 4:48 AM

Dears,

Is it allowed/possible the parallel operation ( synchronization) of the Generators those are different in KVA rating, while the Voltage, phase sequence & Frequency is same.

If, not then why, what it make different?

Thanks,

Yes. Basically, the respective generators should be loaded to the same percentage of their respective ratings.

<...allowed/possible...> It is routine.

...but you have to know what you are doing or the consequences can be devastating...

Yes, with conditions and precautions of load sharing in particular.

There should be an auto link for this question!

Based on my experience, many generators with different capacities can be connected to the same bus-bar to inject power into the systems. They must satisfy the technical constraints to operate in parallel such as voltage, frequency and phase sequence are the same. However, in fact, we often see generators with the same power rating run in parallel because this case is more suitable and practical in operation. You can refer to documentary on power system analysis on the website http://www.psa-oulinte.com
