IT Network System- Control Circuit System Called?

11/18/2014 4:52 AM

Hi,

My project is IT distribution system, and I am using step down transformer for 230v power loads, my question is , is it necessary to ground the secondary X2? If yes, why we should ground it and what is that system called ( TN or TT). And is it necessary to use PE conductor cable for external load , such as anti condensation heater, single phase fan, etc).

There is an excellent article in Wikipedia on earthing systems.

The installation ideally needs to be carried out by a qualified Electrician working to the appropriate national electrical code; in the UK, British Standard 7671 provides all applicable protocols.

Your questions indicate that you are an IT consultant working on AC power systems, a topic that you clearly know nothing about. Earthing/grounding is a fundamental safety issue that is out of your knowledge base.

Saving the cost of a few meters of PE (Protective Earth) and/or ground conductor will surely cost you in destroyed equipment, reliability, and potentially loss of human life. It is unethical at the least, and deadly at the worst, for you to continue taking money for this; turn the job over to someone qualified.

You may read about ground loop and decide what to carry on next.

It will have serious issue on your system once your ground is not done correctly.

Have an experts on this, but if you're confident to understand enough electricity and grounding standards, it should not be a problem.

The first question to ask is why the topic starter requires IT.

In continental IEC/EN Europe IT systems are mainly used for special purposes, like for example for medical rooms (or however they're called, I'm too lazy to google it) as well as critical power (e.g. 110 or 220 V DC in power generation and distribution) and some safety applications.

Where I live IT schemes are not that common excepted where I mentioned it above. They require some specific knowledge and IT also increases costs compared to the more common TN-S and TN-C/TN-C-S. The monitoring relays must be chosen carefully.

There pros and cons when it comes to IT schemes.
