Waste-to-Energy (WTE)

11/30/2014 11:59 AM

Would like to commercially represent in my native Greece a truly outstanding WTE technology with a good track record, and make a business of it. I am perplexed as there are so many companies out there claiming to be leaders in turning Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to fuels and useful byproducts, thus minimizing landfill waste. Would very much appreciate your recommendation of a reliable company that is among the leaders in this field. Many thanks and regards. Chris

Burning waste(like rubber and other stuff) at a low temperature is carcinogenic (dioxin and furans.

With all due respects, a question is not answered by another question. Have a good day and a great month of December. Chris

Well, those are the ones you need to contact, not CR4.

Thank you for the sentiment; I have other plans.

Three good answers out of 100. Not a rate to bestow the guru title. When nothing meaningful comes to mind, keeping silent is the best of options

We used to have a plant attached to the local land fill site that produced fuel pellets but it closed because there was not sufficient demand for the fuel.

The Baltimore Plant has for years provided a steam utility for heating. Mainly the downtown offices and provided electricity to the grid.

I don't think many here are involved in WTE enough to make meaningful recommendations.

energygod may have some insight into this.

tcmtech burns old oil and tires for heat, but his is a small scale operation and he likes black smoke.

I'd contact some municipal governments and see what they are up to.

My fair city seals large pits and reclaims gas from decomposing garbage at their facility.

Good luck.

I noticed (actually heard on the radio this morning) that in Naples begins today the trial of the crime family responsible for dumping all sort of illegal hazardous waste on farmers' land there. It's about time someone started dealing with the fallout from such irresponsible, ludicrous, and unprofitable ventures. If that family had been smart, they would have invested in WTE, and saved a lot of grief on the way to the bank.

Wow! A crime family in Naples ? That's unprecedented, they must be the first, no way would there ever be any crime families in Naples ever. And they were dumping illegal hazardous waste on farmers land, now if they had just sticked to dumping the legal hazardous waste then no one would of been bothered, as for being smart, they thought they were being smart. I mean if you just dump the hazardous waste rather then get it recycled then you can actually make a profit, and as for going to the bank, I'm sure they hid all of that profit under mommas mattress.

Or plowed the ill-gotten loot back into the "coffee" business. Thank sir, for the glib response, as I find ANY response better than none at all.

If they had realized the gold in the hazardous waste itself, they would have realized they were dumping even more insane profits on the land. There is far more money in turning "lead" into "gold", that turning a silk purse into a sow's ear.

Mercy friends. A lot of philosophy and not one practical answer to the single question I have posted. Any WTE company recommendation?

You my Greek friend, have forgotten that for the most part, you are conversing with Americans on this forum, wherein we do have the "freedom of speech". The only thing we are not allowed to say is (loudly) "Fire" in a theater.

Best not to yell "fire" when standing in front of a firing squad either.

There are plenty of WTE companies out there, and one of the forum rules is to try to avoid being a commercial advertisement for any company out there with goods for sale. All I can say with a clear heart is that all of the American companies are first rate. I would steer clear of the North Korean ones - I hear they want to go nuke on that.

You sound like someone in business (not shipping), with a decent head on your shoulders. Generic WTE is a very wide topic. This can be anything from recycling metals that saves a "ton" of energy (and pollution), to plastics recycling, to glass recycling, to fuel production, to waste volume remediation (by some of the more advanced procedures that reduce the solid waste to a pile of ashes and some power output).

I suspect your intuition will lead you to a good answer, so why not contact ALL the players on the field, and see if one is interested in making you the team member in Greece? You should be able by now to separate the sheep from the goats.

Oh, and by the way, lose the attitude, it is not particularly warmly received in here.

In such processing as you have nicely reflected on, there has been found much to also read about use of waste-heat-recovery within use of waste managements. Searching the net since 1996 on this subject even then, showed many simple and practical heat-recoveryexchanges involved tangentially applicable.
