Sometimes left winded but usually to the right until you turn the darn thing around!
And star same as delta while in total disrespect of the before said the delta is the same as the star one. But only the stator as the rotor winding could go North or South only.
As far as I remember, the fields will always be in sets of 3. Either one set = 3 fields, 2 sets = 6 fields. I am personally unaware of more fields, but eminently possible.....
The fields are then connected as star or delta by the starter as required. As far as I remember, starting in Star to reduce the starting current and then switching over to Delta for higher torque.
As far as I am ware, the only speed difference will be with regard to the slip %....unless the starter can switch say six fields in some strange manner to SLOW the motor down, but that is simply a guess from me, there are many others here who will know far better than I.
