Chemical Composition

02/10/2015 1:04 PM

Dear All,

I need some information about chemical composition of IS 2062. As in this standard only maximum values are there. can i know how much is minimum values also. and in the example the values which i have given if accepted can this material be used in transmission line towers.

(example: carbon 0.18%, manganese (Mn) 0.40% is this material is accepted or rejected as per IS 2062. But, mechanical properties are passed.)

please help me for this information. as i need urgently these values.

After using an internet search engine to find out, do let the forum know the outcome.

This is pretty exhaustive for chemical composition:

I do not know about the standards you are referring to for material in transmission line towers, you will have to refer to local codes and laws.

If you need more info about +/- % of chemical composition you could call a supplier and they can get that information to you from the mill.

Urgent? I thought that was what the telephone was for. Try ringing a few suppliers.

Please, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please tell us that you are not building transmission line towers.

If you are, can you tell the forum who the customer is??????

The values are given as the target values. For the limits refer clause 8.2 . And note that since these are structural, the ceq has to be adhered to. And lastly if you try to go too far away from the target value, even within the tolerance band, you might not be able to satisfy the mechanicals, including impact which is as I remember mandatory now.

But remember in the end you need the mechanical properties of the material (limits specified) and the weldability (Ceq). The steel you mentioned on thumb-rule calculation doesn't look to be able to achieve the mechanicals, unless alloying elements are added up, which would then impact the impact properties.
