Confusion

02/12/2015 3:16 PM

Hello all,

I really don't want to work too much, I have become a slacker. I don't care how a car works, how the sun rotates or how anything works. I don't want to think and I want to study something simple and not complex. However, I have chosen engineering because it is easier to get and keep a job, along with earning a good salary. But, is it really that worth it? Aren't there alternatives because I don't think I would make a good engineer if I don't like problem solving and I am not curious about how things work, it's too much work for nothing.

Thank you

You could always try drug dealing. The work is easy, and the money is good. If you live long enough you may even earn free room and board, and a rewarding career in the licence plate trade. However, if you have any moral issues with selling illegal drugs, you can always try law school.

Re: Confusion

You really have the wrong attitude for working in Engineering, some of which is the complete opposite of what you should have if you wish to succeed in this particular (and fast evolving) field.

It really sounds like you don't know WHAT to do with your life yet. Seriously consider another employment field before dropping years and thousands of dollars into a Mechanical Engineering degree (?) because you won't keep an engineering job long if you aren't motivated.

I don't know where you are getting your job advice from but it's a tough job market out there with many people (all with the same degrees etc) applying for the same job, a job you won't even get if you cannot raise yourself above the rest. Same with many other job fields. Just because you have a degree in the end doesn't guarantee you a job.

Try sales. Try something (anything else), and hope you can find something to get motivated about. Once this happens that slacker attitude you seem to have fallen into should hopefully disappear.

Sounds like you might be a candidate for an open Anonymous Poster position at an internet discussion forum called CR4.

Have your people call their people, set up an interview... or not, I don't care either way.

  1. Because it is a gas, it does not rotate like a solid. The Sun actually spins faster at its equator than at its poles. The Sun rotates once every 27 days at its equator, but only once every 31 days at its poles. We know this by watching the motion of sunspots and other solar features move across the Sun. now you can begin your career

...I have chosen engineering because it is easier to get and keep a job, along with earning a good salary...LOL, don't know where you're getting your information (certainly not on this forum), but you need a new source.
My advice, go into management. They seem to care about nothing but putting money in their pockets.

You have finally met the expectations I had of you since your first post here.

You are a prime example of someone who could easily start at the top and work your way to the bottom in no time.

The job market is especially tight for people who want everything given to them without their having to put forth any effort to get it.

As I recall, you've never been able to make any decisions, want someone else to plan an easy route for you in a top grade school so that you will get the best job and not have to work at it. Oh, and at the top of the pay, and job security scales as well.

I'll give you a honest reference, if you'd like.

Good luck.

Your request is hard to fulfill,.. let me mention your desire:

- You're unwilling to work too much.. -You don't want to use your loaf.. - You'd like to study something easy.. - You'd like to get a rewarding job.

What suits you??? What suits you better?? err,, Oh I've found it ... According to your willing, I'd say that working as "a drug dealer" will match you very well.

Re: Confusion

02/12/2015 7:17 PM

Follow what interest you the most. What you think is beneficial for your interest to be fulfilled.

You make a good business man, start selling insurance and products, that's simple. But even so, there will be complex things you have to decide later on if you succeed in selling things , which won't save your principles - "easy come, easy go".

Even if you have ingredients for cooking, food is not a one ingredient stuff and process. Eating is simple, cooking and resource will not be easy to do and find.

You are a slave to your own principles, and with what you have right now is a "lazy" principle.

The world is designed in such a way that when you slack or lazy--people will back bite you and mess with your reputation. If you are a weakling, you can not survive.

Me, I am also easily discourage, I slack sometimes--foremost that is when I don't want my good works and achievements credited to "a not my type" ungracious superior- I could quit anytime for him.

You could make a change by changing your mind.

An organism finds it resource and accumulate knowledge with its surrounding and itself and use it in his advantage. If he might not use all info but, he will pass this on to others or the next generation of the same kind. -- this how your immune system works (colostrum) , you get it from your parents and your kids get it from you--sad to say your kids gets "slack" DNA from you if that is genetic. NOW TELL ME, IS EVERYTHING YOU KNOW USELESS? DUMB ASS, say YES!

Re: Confusion

02/12/2015 8:20 PM

First, I want to apologise for my first comments.

I am thinking back to a post from a few days ago by an anonymous poster linking to an Indian film about some students in an Engineering college (was that you who posted?) and the pressure that their society placed on the students. The film made me understand that in India, and maybe in your culture, a career in engineering is a pathway to wealth and status. But, with that status comes a great deal of responsibility and dedication. If you are not willing to accept that responsibility in your studies and future work, you should seek a different direction in your life.

However, whatever direction you chose, to be a success, it will take dedication and hard work. But if you love what you are doing, you will find that the hard work is easy.

There may be an opportunity for you in the Porn industry, pointing a camera or suchlike, especially if you have steady hands while under stress. (I think it may be mandatory to keep both hands on the camera).

You won't have to study much, as you will instinctively pick up on the simplicity of the subject, and know where to point the lens. I hear that the job pays OK, and there may even be benefits!

Unemployed.........

Divorced..........

He aimed low in life

.........and missed

Or, if you have any looks or charm why not try being a gigolo, morally about the same as selling drugs but technically not illegal.

Oh there you are Eeyore:

Just because you change your name does not mean you can hide.

Assuming your birth year was '97. You have a long way to go, put down the drugs, join the service and become a demolitions engineer. That should motivate you to study and do your own homework.

I have read quite a few comments and my advise based on 70 years of successful work environments and keen observations of both engineers but more important so called managers is to enroll in the arts and focus on basket weaving 101. Now if you attend a portion of the time and keep your lips moist you just may ( in your mind) succeed in your chosen activities.

Since you are a self-admitted "slacker" you won't succeed at anything until you do something about your mindset of motivation, self-discipline and work ethic.

"Success is never cheap and it's never on sale."

In the LIFE Leadership Business we challenge people to DEFINE (what they want in life; start a business, income potential, time freedom, lifestyle, etc.), LEARN (from someone who has those kind of results), DO (what they do). Find out what you want to do, what your skillsets are, what you like and are good at.

The precursor to all that is being hungry to make great things happen.

Seem like an ideal candidate for upper management in almost any major US corporation. There is always a demand and openings for management. They just can't hire anybody to do the work. Or, as somebody already indirectly mentioned, political office at any level. You seem particularly suited to congress, if you choose to go the political route.

My first thought, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy_knXF_G6c

You could move to Colorado and be a salesman in a cannabis store. Or find an attorney and try to get Social Security Disability. Lack of motivation should be a medical condition? Don't forget food stamps, and your very own free Obama-phone. Good luck!

So.."I really don't want to work too much, I have become a slacker."

There's a really excellent vocation for this...

"I don't care how a car works, how the sun rotates or how anything works."

Yes, there's a very good vocation for all these....

"I don't want to think.."

Yes, absolutely true, no brains are needed at all with this....

"and I want to study something simple..."

Yes, would reading the paper be ok? This is very easy and anyone can do it...

You can also get very rich, do no work, do it whenever you like, it's all so easy...

Become a gambler...

Re: Confusion

Have you considered becoming a musician, OH wait, that requires thinking. Have you thought about teaching school, OH wait, even that requires thinking. If you want to be a hospital bed mattress tester, those positions were filled already, and the job completed- most of them moving on to the great here after.

If you really want to avoid thinking, you should apply for an unpaid internship at the following: Your local government. Your local television station. Apply for a bed and a meal at the Salvation Army. Go into mass communications media and study to be a news reporter for CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, or a host of other "news" outlets.

Become a janitor in a museum. Become a toll booth attendant. Become a mystery shopper.

If you want to avoid working and thinking: sit down, and drink wine on the curb. Help will arrive soon.

If you come to your senses, and realize that work is fun, that being creative with science is fun, and that learning never has to stop, and you don't mind putting forth some perspiration in order to gain some inspiration, then engineering or hard science can still be your wheelhouse. Grow some determination. What are you passionate about? Anything? If not, seek professional help - you are suffering from depression.

Shuresh: My friend, we can surely pray for this lost one to come to the truth. That he is lacking the inspiration that leads to a great desire to help others in this world, is a sign that he is missing out in some area, such as a mother's love, a father's guidance and friendship, and one or two close friends. There are so many in this world who lack these, but somehow overcome all, and find great careers that satisfy their needs, and help people in the communities where they live. This one, he needs to begin a journey, just one step at a time, and learn to be observant, feel the air rushing into his lungs, and out, to see the beauty of this living world, and to begin to understand small things. Faithful in little details grows into being faithful in great ones.

I operate on the principle that there is always hope while we yet live. Even in the worst desperation, there remains some spark of hope for tomorrow. Living in the now is a good start, it usually leads to tomorrow.

James, Such young sick people make others sick and lazy. They do not wish to work and simply eat and sleep. I think he needs some mental treatment.

The way we used to deal with things here in West Texas: sink or swim! that was my father's way (learned in the United States Navy, no doubt), and it seemed to work for me. Throw the boy in the large earth irrigation buffer tank about 8 feet deep, and he will either sink or swim! Harsh? I don't think nearly as harsh as the reality that awaits someone who refused to press his own "start" button. Yes, he needs some professional help, and a drill sergeant might be the best therapist of all.

and he will either sink or swim

Or float.

Just like the real world there are nearly always alternative ways of doing things and accomplishing the goal.
