Eclipse, Friday 20th March 2015

03/02/2015 3:12 AM

Just a quick note to advise that there will be a solar eclipse on Friday 20th March. Observers in the UK may achieve around 84% obscurity of the sun during the morning.

The event has safety implications for anyone using construction equipment, roads, etc., and may trigger some unusual events, such a street lights coming on at odd times and lots of individuals in places where they might not otherwise be found on a normal day.

Here's hoping the clouds will part sufficiently for it to be seen in all its splendour.

Yeah it will be like Y2K all over again, raining frogs n' all sorts.

I'll be driving over the QE2 bridge on that day, I'll be sure to buy some frog proof wiper blade.

But seriously tho'

Cool, I will look out for it

Do we (well you really I s'pose) know what time of day in t' UK?

Del

Skip the blades. You just need FrogX on your windscreen.

Here is the Wikipedia link for this eclipse. (I love the 30 second per frame animation of the eclipse shadow on the Earth.) It looks like the penumbra will start over GB at about 0830 GMT with a maximum around 0930.

NASA has a good website loaded with eclipse info. The following link provides a map. Click anywhere on the path of totality and it will tell you the eclipse details at that location, including times. Or click on your location in the UK and it will give the info for your spot.

You can use this to advantage. Too bad it is in the morning, when the pub's are least occupied.
