90 Degrees Phase Shift for Input Signal

03/07/2015 10:55 PM

How to get 90 degrees phase shift for an signal practically. We cant use an inductor because it cant give 90 degrees perfect phase shift practically and a capacitor is giving me a 60 degrees only but not 90 so please give suggestions how to get perfect 90 degrees.

Google gives you about 991,000 results.

It is difficult to give you an answer when you come up with this little info.

A coil- or a capacitor can give you practically 90 degrees when your RC or RL circuit is dimensioned the right way.

Look up Op-amp integrators.

If the circuit you are trying to use to obtain a 90° phase shift is a single pole filter, then it cannot be done. One must have at least two poles to get a 90° phase shift. An induction motor run/start capacitor circuit is not a single pole filter. The motor is a much more complex impedance than a resistor.

Here is a link to an excellent article on phase shifting control.

What is the application?

What is the Frequency?

What is the power level?

Here is an audio frequency phase delay device for $ 100. You should use a two channel scope to assure that the delay is precisely 90 degrees.

Using BING, I found this circuit diagram. I would substitute variable R and C in the

output stage to get a tunable delay.
