They note that there could be a connection between smell and sound,

Not too surprising, looking at some smells or I should say odors can trigger memories.

Are you proposing that one can actually see smells (olfactory stimuli generally)? How might one refer to this sensory fusion of smell and sight? Smight?

Of the 5 traditional senses there are 2⁵ combinations. The null and single ones total 6, leaving the opportunity to create 26 new words, best left as an exercise for the reader....

I think there might be something to it, when you think about the verb "to smight" and the expected sensory condition of the smitten.

I smell you coming.....would not be such a compliment now would it.

As long as they're not trying to lock people up for reporting it, I could care less whether the sight, sound and smell of food (not to mention salivation effects or taste) are synchronized or a "brain blur" on their test equipment.

Many years ago I was on a course, and, staying in a pub/guest house which used to be a coaching inn (so very old building). In the middle of the night I woke up and became convinced that there was someone or something in the room. Don't be stupid: go back to sleep; I couldn't; "Oh this is stupid I'll have to get up and turn on the light and have a good look round"; I was lying on my side and rolled onto my back; there was a pair of eyes looking straight at me from about a foot away; I nearly.........

It was just a cat sitting on the pillow. My point is: that somehow I knew it was there, but, have no idea which one of my senses was telling me it was there. I suspect that our brains take in information from several of our senses and somehow multiply them together to give a feeling which is "greater than the sum".
