ACLU prevails: US Fed Judge Invalidates Gene Patent

United States District Court Judge Robert W. Sweet has invalidated Myriad Genetics's infamous "breast cancer patent" -- a patent on genetic mutations that cause breast cancer, which Myriad has exercised in the form of a high lab-fee for analysis on samples (Myriad threatens to sue any independent lab that performs the analysis).

Gee, seems like I recall there being a requirement for an original INVENTOR. Since these people didn't invent a naturally occurring phenomenon, I am not sure how we got here.

Perhaps I should file a patent on Carbon as long as they are allowing patents like these.

nah...oxygen would yield better profits. Go for it...I forsake my rights on oxygen in your favour.

Looks like the USA's ACLU does a lot of good work.

Wish we had something like it in Australia.

I think it would be better said that the USA's ACLU does some good work. Just as a bad tennis player occasionally hits an ace serve.
