Plastic from Algae: The First Step Toward a Fish-Friendly Gyre?

By year's end, an Indiana company says it will be making plastic from algae, substituting up to half of the material normally derived from fossil fuels with biomass from the aquatic plants, and selling the product to manufacturers.

They make it sound like green energy or process, when in fact they are accelerating the process what took nature millions of years to do.

Now would this open up a new industry, such as algae farming?

What are the prices for the raw materials?

If there is money to be made, they should have enough supply.

Oh boy, more plastics. That sounds like the same old garbage problem, only from another source. If they want a fish-friendly gyre, they should go the other direction and make algae from plastic. Alas, that will be more difficult.
