If evolution is true, then these creatures already served their purpose.

(But also, if evolution is true, why don't we see monkies becoming humans?)

Gorgeous critters. The hands and habit of walking seem like they would have been more suited to the labyrinth fish (anabas) which move over land using their fins - disappointingly fish-looking compared with these puppies (which really look like they could climb trees!).

But there you are. Instead of one clear 'intermediary' species between fish and land animal we have suggestions of many paths...

so this is how the spin doctors are explaining "genetic experiments that escaped" these days... by saying the are 'nearly extinct'.
