LG Files Patent for Flexible Mobile Display Technology, Looks Good on Paper

Posted May 26, 2010 1:46 PM

From Newlaunches.com:

One bit of mobile technology I'm really looking forward to seeing in action is a completely flexible display. Well frankly I'm looking forward to this even if it isn't on a mobile handset. We know that the technology is a work in progress and not just some concept some Hollywood writer thought up. LG has already filed a patent application for such technology. In fact their idea is to have a flexible display with a mobile terminal that you could take with you anywhere and possibly use it on any surface. It seems feasible enough if they can get it done. But realistically this is not something we could expect to see in 2010. Here's hoping though.

Universal Display is another company that has been working to advance flexible and transparent OLED displays. They do research with Princeton University. About 10 years ago I was a project manager for a design build engineering firm and I quoted an addition of clean rooms. The package engineer showed me some really cool test displays that were transparent and flexible and were able to display some very vivid colors. Its was very advanced at the time so I wonder how far along it must be now. The overall size of the flexible displays were a stumbling block if I remeber correctly. They were more of an R&D company that would license the technology for production. Some cool stuff.

Love the title's wordplay! And so do the search engine algorithms, from what I read. - Larry
