A Shocking Reception

Posted March 13, 2007 6:00 PM

From Techie Diva:

People getting mugged along the street is so common these days, that kind of news won't even make it to the newspaper, let alone prime time. Hence, you really can't be too careful these days when it comes to protecting yourself. The Knuckle Blaster Stun Gun is just the device to store in your handbag every time you go out alone, especially when working through those late night shifts. So what if you don't know any martial arts - each of these babies are able to bring even a sumo wrestler to his knees via a 950,000-volt zap. Just wear it around your hand like brass knuckles, and you will be able to deliver what is literally a knockout punch.

The damned bureaucrats who supposedly work for us prevent those in areas which need this the most from legally owning them. What other defense does a 70 year old woman in Harlem have against a burly 20-something mugger?

Instead, according to a recent local newspaper article, the same bureaucrats, state workers, state police and school supervisors work overtime, up to twice the value of their salaries, to qualify for retirement at 80+ percent of pay. They just reach their hands into our pockets, unabated, to do so.

The township in which I live has so many school districts that only 27% of municipal taxes go to the township. You can guess where the other monies go. Public servants? No, public leaches in my opinion.

There is an old joke about a lady tourist who was visiting a Latin American country. The lady asked the guide what is their favorite sport. The guide answered "cock fighting". The lady replied ,"that is revolting" to which the guide said, "Ah, that is the second sport".

In regard to the public "leaches", perhaps it is time for us to consider "the second sport".

Bernie,

I agree 100%. I can't blame the workers though, but the very elected representatives that are sworn to represent us, but instead cave in to municipal unions and other special interests with the goal of staying in office and/or lining their pockets.

The job of police officer in my area is statistically much safer than many other occupations, yet they and school teachers, just to name a few, earn far more than the average wage and have benefits that no private sector employees possess. My school budget and school taxes rise consistently at a rate 2-3 times the rate of inflation. Where will it end?

Regards, Greg
