Why or Why Not Send Your Name to Mars?

Don't know if any extraterrestrials will ever find it, but you can sign up to send your name to Mars on the upcoming Winter 2011 trip of the Curiosity rover. Also referred to as the Mars Science Laboratory, the six-wheeled vehicle that is scheduled to land in August 2012 will have a microchip attached to it containing the names. How many do you think it can hold? What about using nicknames? Famous people's monikers?
