Recent news reports from the Bureau of Economic Analysis say that average compensation for workers in the federal government has grown to more than double what workers in the private sector earn: in 2009 it was $123,049 vs. $61,051. Public employee unions say the difference reflects the increasingly high level of skill and education required for most federal jobs and that the statistics are unfavorably biased because the government contracts out lower-paying jobs to the private sector. Critics of the government say average citizens are fed up with the public sector's largesse. Which side do you take?
