Collision Avoidance Tech Avoids Highway Deaths

Posted November 30, 2010 7:40 AM by Sharkles

Collision avoidance technology is not a new idea. What is new are research findings indicating the technology could halve all lane change and rear-end crashes. According to Fleet Equipment Magazine, new collision prevention systems will slash annual collision repair and loss costs and, more importantly, it will save lives.

One system in development is Merritor WABCO OnGuard, an Adaptive Cruise Control and Active Braking system that automatically alerts operators of an impending collision and automatically de-throttles the engine.

As an owner or operator, do you see foresee a future where collision prevention tech is not only encouraged in your fleet's trucks, but becomes an industry requirement?

I have been driving only highway routes most of my working life.

I wanted to see Back windows and a long Side window on the passenger side of all cargo vans, Where exists a whopper of a blind spot and if windows where indicated are not plausible.

A screen on the dashboard that acts as a reliable surround view of traffic that

has an adjustable button for left and right and even rear, like the mirrors now.

75% of all statistics are made up on the spot!

okay seriously... it has always been abundantly evident that collision avoidance systems were a good idea. What you really need are automaker and insurance company avoidance systems, because they are the reason we didn't have collision avoidance systems decades ago.

it isn't rocket science... (er, if I can figure out how to do it, then smart people can too.)
