Posted December 02, 2010 10:36 AM

From Gizmodo:

Yet another field of expertise has been wiped out by some steel pincers—strawberry-pickers. Japan's robot detects which berries are at least 80 per cent red, and picks them gently off the vine.

Soooo...

I better not go into the strawberry patch wearing Bermuda shorts.

Wouldn't want to get my red berries pinched off!

If your berries are red, you'd do well to wear longer pants to keep them from getting sunburned.

Was at the World Wide Food Show a few years back at the McCormick Place in Chicago. And the Japanese always hat automation that look, very intimadating, dangerous.

Such as the automated meat processor, Half a beef (or a whole one) would go in on one side and coming out on the other side would be portioned. I didn't stick around to see how finished a product came out.......because the first thing that came to mind, what would happen if the maintenance gut who did lock the machine out.

So keep your strawberry picking prongs off me.....as well as doorman with his strawberry shorts as he prances around in the strawberry patch.
