Does Communication Suffer When We Twitter?

Posted December 30, 2010 2:58 PM

Time was when a communication between two people required lengthy written documents. The slow pace of mail delivery emphasized the need to get all of your thoughts down at once. Telephones changed the dynamic, making distant communication a conversation. Email took matters a step further by providing and expecting immediate responses. But social interactions like Facebook, Twitter, and cellphone texting have reduced our communication to just a few instant words. Are we becoming more efficient, or are we losing too much information in the economy of words? Will we ever go back? Should we ever go back?

No, but I think this blog suffers when the topic has absolutely nothing to do with semiconductors. Social media and technical communications are relevant topics for engineers - but not here.

I totally agree with Moose. But would add that I think it enhances it, since many things can be 'done' before hand; IE: if we're going to meet someone, then some things can be 'planned out' ahead of time - this therefore would enhance said 'communication.'
