Hydraulic Suspension (Again)

Posted March 10, 2011 7:00 AM

Hydraulic hybrid vehicles have been getting a lot of attention. Active hydraulic suspensions for ride control have been around in prototype forms for some time and are now beginning to see use in high-end sports cars. Do you think active-suspension technology will ever see widespread automotive use, or remain more of a curiosity?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Hydraulics, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Hydraulics today.

Who wrote this? What does "hybrid" have to do with it?

Active suspension should be adopted, but it doesn't have to be hydraulic. The Bose Corp. has developed a working linear actuator for automobiles that has long throw and fast action. It could really help with off-road activity. I think it is actually being used on some high end German car.
