At Particle Lab, a Tantalizing Glimpse Has Physicists Holding Their Breaths

Posted April 06, 2011 8:35 AM

From NYT > Science:

Physicists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory are planning to announce Wednesday that they have found a suspicious bump in their data that could be evidence of a new elementary particle or even, some say, a new force of nature.

Original article published in the Science section of the New York Times.

... and their funding is scheduled to run out in September. Some physicists, like Nima Arkani-Hamed of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, are skeptical. Hmmm. That suspicious bumps sounds... suspicious.

The only thing I find really shocking here is the fact that new physics theory could be developing... on the basis of actual physical data! Surely this is rocking the boat....
