Cardboard Bike Helmet Better than Plastic

Posted June 07, 2011 12:23 PM

From Wired:

Kranium is a bike helmet that is made from the same cardboard used for the boxes you find at the supermarket. This material, along with some clever construction, turns out to be a lot better at absorbing impact than the more usual polystyrene-filled lids.

Does this blog entry have anything to do with the "California bans Styrofoam" blog?

Corrugated polystyrene would be worth trying. It would be waterproof as well. It does seem a lot more protective than the closed cell polystyrene due to a better crumple factor. It would be worth testing as the inner cushioning. Regular cardboard could also be waterproofed. Continuous improvement should be pursued. Brains are easily injured.
