Fat fuel alliance

ConocoPhillips and Tyson Foods have formed an alliance to produce and market the next generation of renewable diesel fuel using beef, pork and poultry by-product fat. Over the last year, the companies have been collaborating on ways to leverage Tyson's knowledge in protein chemistry and production with ConocoPhillips' processing and marketing experience to introduce a renewable diesel to the United States.

My wife is a vegetarian and she won't wear leather shoes. Doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with eating.

While at first glance this seems like a good idea, check out the reaction from The National Biodiesel Board:

They correctly point out that the new IRS tax ruling on this fuel could allow oil refineries to suck up all of tax credits for biodiesel without creating any new fuel production capacity.
