With the cost of gas holding steady and the economy seemingly headed south, Americans logged 15.5 billion fewer miles this year than they
did during the first half of 2010. So says a new report by the NHTSA,
which also found that roadway use is at its lowest point since 2004, and
driving is down 1.1 per cent across the nation. Is this good news?
It
may seem a little minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but any
reduction in traffic seems good, and at least it's not going up as our
population continues to climb. Another possible perk, as Detroit News speculates: "As Americans drive less, they may be more likely to hold onto older vehicles."
How about you, are you keeping your cars off the road a little more, or has there been no change in your driving habits?
