How is Tech Hiring in Your Field?

Posted October 03, 2011 8:32 AM

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that technology unemployment today is about 4%, compared to a national average for all industries of around 9%. At the same time, an online site for technology recruitment says there are two or three job openings for every student graduating with a computer science degree this year. Based on your experience, would you say that this level of demand for workers applies to engineering and scientific employment more generally? What is your organization's experience? Are you having difficulties finding new recruits with the right skills?

As far as the Telecom sector....its crap. There are openings, but they are few and far between. And there are still many layoffs looming, and zero job security for those still working as a result.

Aviation systems engineers / avionics engineers are sloooowly picking up for contract employment. Lots of companies are complaining they can't find directs, but I suspect they want PhDs for Bachelor's prices.
