Could the tubes be sealed at each end and filled with Helium? This would make a very strong and secure material for lighter than air craft. With every tube sealed,it would require major damage to affect the lift of the vehicle. The military is deploying blimps for surveillance work in hostile areas now. This would make them very hard to destroy.

The helium would also improve the rebound memory of the material.
