How the Hippies Saved Physics: Science, Counterculture, and the Quantum Revival

I'll save everyone the trouble: There is NOTHING in the excerpted article reprinted here that has ANYTHING to do with hippies, counterculture or the 'Quantum Revival'. (I never knew it was dead.) Eight long pages I read and sifted through to see what the story was. I thought maybe I missed something the 'hippies' did when I was in physics grad school back in the '70s, or that QM somehow had died in the meantime.

Nope. Maybe there is something about it in the book, though I suspect the title is just some boomer trying to pat his (my) generation on the back for some 'insight' that can only be credited to the new consciousness that came about due to hippiedom.

To which I say: Dude. Don't be so full of yourself.

It's an interesting story all the same.

30 years ago there was a neat little flyer that was circulated around the physics department with a tongue-in-cheek advertisement for Bob's School of Quantum Mechanics. It had the feel of the ITT schools and their ilk. I'll see if I can find my ancient copy. The graphics quality was horrendous by today's standards but still funny for those wrestling with the math of quantum mechanics.
