Sally Ride, First American Woman In Space, Has Died

Dr. Sally Ride, an American physicist and former NASA astronaut, has died of pancreatic cancer. She joined NASA in 1978, and in 1983 became the first American woman to travel into space.

Sad, sad, sad.

As the father of three young daughters, I have been particularly interested in the advancement of women. It was so good to see her fly into space, but the thing that sticks in memory was a BC comic strip that showed the Fatbroad, on a clifftop, fist in the air, watching a rocket and shouting, "Ride, Sally Ride, ride"

Somehow it's very appropriate that we memorialize Sally Ride on Amelia Earhart's birthday.
